The Polish Exodus by John Cedar my comments p.6 - Numbers in Poland

2020.11.26 20:53 zdun10 The Polish Exodus by John Cedar my comments p.6 - Numbers in Poland

First I would like to say that JW's was not “new american religion” in Poland in 90-ties. President of WT Russel visited Warsaw in year 1910 and first group was formed in 1913. When iron curtain felled and political system has changed in 1989 there was 88733 active members in Poland. Officially, in communist system JW's were banned but after Solidarity (Labour union against socialist government) was formed and with Poland under martial law from 1981, Polish JW's were no longer persecuted. Full data is unavailable, but in 1985 there was 72887 JW's active members and that number increased in 1989 of 11672 i.e. 16%.
After change of political system and legalisation, increase continued, and preaching could be done openly in public. JW's in Poland gained more active members in old political system than in democracy. To compare, in 2004 the highest number of publishers ever was 128616. Decline in numbers started in 2005 year after Poland joined EU and Poles could travel freely in Europe without visas.
Below is a link to report of baptised, publishers and other data about Poland.
translation: Liczba głosicieli w Polsce i wzrost procentowy – number of publishers in Poland and % increase przeciętna - average, najwyższa – peak Liczba osób ochrzczonych - number of baptised
https://piotrandryszczak.pl/polemika2aa/najwazniejsze-dane-statystyczne-dotyczace-swiadkow-jehowy2.html
This is numbers of publishers who is not reporting and baptisms 2001-2019:
not reporting baptisms
2001: 4679
2002: 1350
2003: 2379
2004: 3513
2005: 3778
2006: 4766
2007: 3057
2008: 4323
2009: 3489
2010: 2699
2011: 2567 2275
2012: 3131 2420
2013: 3495 2290
2014: 3192 2089
2015: 3041 1885
2016: 3829 1740
2017: 3467 1571
2018: 3245 1508
2019: 2630 1560
(it is calculated by deducting publishers from 2 years and adjusting for baptisms)
Data about people who left in years 1990-2000 we can find here:
https://watchtower.org.pl/iszbin/ucieczka.htm
ochrzczono – baptised ucieklo - escaped
(By the way this is the website that M.Trebacz is refering to in interview and its online since 1999, I wish I would read it back than.)
The link above is to the article about members “escaping” from Watchtower. In total, huge number of 46804 people went missing (not adjusting for death) in that period. In year 1996 due to changed teachings of “generation 1914”, Poland lost 7116 active members (5.7% ) This is highest number up to date, far exceeding 3829 in 2016 (only 3.2%) that is linked with ARC. The number of missing in 2016 is the highest in years 2009-2019 and then goes down to 2630 in 2019, which suggests that trend of leaving religion slowed down.
Biggest “Polish Exodus” took place in years 1990-2000. In those years WT lost more members than in any decade later. It is interesting to look at steady decline of baptized into organisation, after peak in 1990 with 11387 to 1560 in 2019 (only 13%!). This is long standing trend and can not be explained by recent actions.
Also number of missing publishers seems to be similar every year, apart from years 2016, 2017 and its lower than in previous decades. Steady decline in baptisms and similar number of missing members every year caused drop to 115229 in 2019. There is no reason to think that those trend will be reversed. Polish society is getting older and older, and it is also predicted that population will decline to 32.5mln in 2050. We can expect the same among JW's, with people leaving and no young joining, they can easily lose 30-35k members in ten years.
Between 2009-2019 total number of 34785 people stopped reporting in Poland. Lloyd gave number of 11137, which is only shows decline in active members and do not include total loses.
Poland was at peak in 2004 and after that date we can see decline. Poland was not a member of EU till 2004 so missing numbers can not be explained by emigration before that year. But after 2004 that possibility should be considered. I can only use data that I have, I would like to find out if there is similarity between some trends. It is not to prove that something happened because something else happened. Also correlation doesn't imply causation. I choose to analyse UK because large group of Poles lives there, reliable data about emigrants from ONS and GU, and there are many Polish congregations in UK.
I calculated number of publishers missing in UK in years 2001 to 2019. I would like to examine what changes were in publishers in Poland, number of publishers and missing publishers in UK.
Between years 2000 and 2004 numbers of publishers in UK dropped 751 with aprox. 2686 missing every year. I am not able to analyse previous years as I do hot have any data. But in 2005 number of publishers increased to 127206 and its increasing every year with some corrections to 2019. In Poland numbers rose till 2004, and in 2005 Poland noted first decline, very small to 128519. After that year decline is steady. Year 2005 is turning point for both countries.
Significant event that could make such a shift of trends could be accession of new state members to EU in 2004 and population movement that it allowed. We do not have data about working activist and protest in Poland at that time. I do not know how could it explain increase of JW's in UK.
Number of missing publishers was only 775 in 2005, than 259 and 988. this is unusual drop, which may show that new publishers moving into the country. In next ten years on average there was about 2044 publishers less every year. Number of missing publishers in UK is lower after accession what may suggest influx of JW's from Eastern Europe. The highest drop was in 2019, 5163 missing publishes, It difficult to say what caused that, apart from inactivity probably some move out of UK as well (is this people comming back?). In 2015, the number of missing publishers was 3170, that may be a effect of ARC, which struck UK earlier than Poland. This is not to say that only Poles fuelling growth in UK, other Eastern European JW's could as well. Significant fact is that before accession UK was in decline, what changed in UK society that caused growth among JW's?. I cant come up with any reasonable explanation apart from increased net migration into UK.
I not in favour of this national-patriotic “reasoning” or “seasoning” in that movie. Polish people love freedom? Who does not? Numbers clearly shows that when people have opportunity to improve live they do it now, not waiting for paradise. Poland is not only one country where songs about freedom were made. I do not know any nation that would willingly subjected themselves under oppressive regime and would not fight for freedom, or maybe would be happy to lose national identity and be exterminated. Nothing new, history teaches us that. And what about BS that WT is teaching? We are lucky to live in the age of information, WT will crumble when publishers go online, thats sure thing. I wonder who of ex-JW's was happy to learn that he had been lied and manipulated for 5, 10, 15 years or longer. I think no one. This is common for everyone. Nothing new, but thats just my opinion.
Generally speaking, uplifting, positive movie.

2020.11.25 11:02 wroberti How to Prepare Your Parcel for Shipping

Guide to preparing parcels for shipment.
Circumstances surrounding the current COVID-19 pandemic has led to many small businesses and independent traders turning to delivery options for their customers – with questions surrounding preparing parcels taking the forefront.
Following a recent survey conducted by insurance comparison website QuoteZone, it is believed that roughly a quarter of businesses (24%) in the UK have launched a delivery service in order to continue fulfilling customer orders during the UK lockdowns.
This sharp rise has led to some traders and independent businesses who previously were used to serving the public on a face-to-face basis, feeling lost when it comes to preparing parcels for delivery for the first time.
And with more than half (56%) of the 600 UK businesses featured in the survey stating that they plan to continue a delivery service after restrictions have been lifted, it’s never been more important to understand the answers to some of the commonly asked questions when preparing parcels.
We’ve helped to break down some of the most frequently asked questions below.

Frequently Asked Questions on Preparing Parcels

What Are the Size and Weight Limits for Parcels?

When sending parcels via Royal Mail, you can follow the size guide we’ve included below.
Each different type of mail has its own maximum weight, length, width, and depth limit, so be sure to take these into consideration when preparing parcels for delivery.
If you are preparing parcels to send via a courier instead, then the following courier company websites contain more information on size and weight restrictions:
DHL
DPD
Hermes
Parcelforce
Yodel
UPS
TNT (soon to become FedEx Express)

How Much Does It Cost to Send Parcels?

When preparing parcels to send via regular post, it’s important to know the costings involved.
You will need to consider sundry costs associated with postage and packaging such as parcel tape, packing materials and the cost of the box or envelope your item will be contained in.
If you are sending items via the Royal Mail, then it may be useful to use their onsite Price Finder tool in order to calculate an approximate cost for your letter, large letter or parcels.
Alternatively, it’s worth looking at their most recent Pricing Guide, which contains the most up-to date costs associated with both parcels sent via Royal Mail and Parcelforce Worldwide.
Once again, if you are preparing parcels to be sent via a courier service, then the cost associated with this will also differ depending on which company you use.
Parcel price comparison sites like Parcel Monkey can help you understand the overall cost of sending parcels based on their weight and intended location.

What Items Are Banned from Being Sent via Post or Courier?

As can be expected, you will be unable to send certain items that could be considered dangerous or illegal via the postal system and by courier services.
When sending parcels via Royal Mail or Parcelforce Worldwide, the following items are strictly prohibited:
· Aerosols
· Alcohol
· Ammunition
· Asbestos
· Balance Boards
· Balloons filled with non-flammable gases
· Batteries
· Biological substances (Category B)
· Bowel Cancer Screening
· Christmas Crackers
· Clinical and medical Waste
· Controlled drugs and narcotics
· Corrosives (dyes, acids, corrosive paints, rust removers)
· Counterfeit currency, bank notes and postage stamps
· DNA samples (limited to saliva swaps and samples)
· Dry ice and Liquid Nitrogen
· Electronic cigarettes
· Environmental waste
· Explosives (fireworks, flares, blasting caps, party poppers)
· Flammable liquids
· Flammable solids
· Frozen water (including packs of ice)
· Gases (including flammable, non-flammable, toxic and compressed)
· Goods made in foreign prisons
· Guns for sporting use
· Human or animal ashes
· Infectious substances and pathogens
· Lighters or refills containing flammable liquid or gas
· Liquids not classified as dangerous goods
· Live animals and reptiles
· Live creatures, insects, and invertebrates
· Lottery tickets
· Magnetised material
· Matches (including safety matches and windproof matches)
· Nail varnish, polish, or gel
· Obscene publications and unlawful indecent images
· Oxidising materials or organic peroxides
· Paints, wood varnishes and enamels
· Patient Specimens
· Perfumes and aftershaves
· Perishable items
· Pesticides
· Poisons, toxic liquids, solids, and gases
· Prescription medicines and drugs sent for scientific or medical purposes
· Radioactive materials and samples
· Sharp objects (including scissors and kitchen knives or utensils and gardening tools)
· Tickets and related advertisements for illegal lotteries
· Vaccines
· Waste, dirt, filth, or refuse (including household waste)
· Weapons
These restrictions apply to most postal and courier services, but for specific additions and in some cases, exclusions, it’s worth looking at each companies’ respective websites linked earlier in this article.

How Can I Package Items for Shipment?

Depending on the size, shape and weight of the items you are preparing to have delivered to your recipient, the most appropriate form of packaging for large items for both courier and mail services is a cardboard box or a postal box.
An important point to note when opting to use a cardboard box for preparing parcels is the difference between single wall boxes and double wall boxes.
Single Wall Boxes are often used in order to transport smaller, lighter and less bulkier items.
Due to this, they can usual only hold a limited amount of items.
Double Wall Boxes offer a stronger packaging structure, and as a result, can support the weight of heavier items compared to Single Wall Boxes.
You will need to carefully consider which type of cardboard box or postal box best suits the type of item you are preparing for delivery.
Guidelines on the types of items most appropriate for each type of mailing box are included below.

Small Cardboard Boxes

Small Cardboard Boxes are best used when sending items such as:
· CDs/DVDs
· Books
· Collectibles
· Office Supplies
· Bric-a-Brac

Medium or Large Cardboard Boxes

If your item is larger than any of the examples provided above, then Medium Cardboard Boxes or Large Cardboard Boxes are your best option.
These usually are most suitable when sending:
· Office Equipment
· Electrical Supplies
· Kitchen Appliances
· Large Folders and Filing Accessories
Postal Boxes
However, when preparing parcels for delivery to a recipient via post, the best form of packaging for your item (still taking into account size, weight and shape) is a Postal Box.
Postal Boxes are best to accommodate the inclusion of items such as:
· Jewelry
· Gifts
· Clothing
· And other similar items.
You can find a variety of mailing boxes online, making the process of preparing parcels for shipping simple and efficient should you begin delivering goods to customers as a result of COVID-19.
By following the information and advice provided, it’s never been easier to prepare a parcel for shipping as a small business, independent trader or for personal gift giving over the Christmas period and beyond.

2020.11.24 13:22 ysbq Current Delivery Times to UK

I have ordered my Inspiron Laptop from DELL online and wanted to know what are the usual delivery times for Shipping from China to UK by DELL.
Since, the website had given me ETA two times and now they are cancelled without any new ETA date.
The shipping company's link on the DELL website does not provide much information. Likewise, when I searched "Standard SYNE" on internet for current shipping times not much a luck there even doing that.
Please help me out by sharing any experiences in recent months.

Expect weekend and holiday case report delays. "Daily case counts reflect newly reported cases and may represent cases that were tested in the preceding days, which could significantly impact the count on days when a relatively large number of laboratory reports arrive in one day." SNHD confirmed they are not counting COVID-19 antibody positives into their COVID-19 positive case counts.
Majority of information is pulled from Southern Nevada Health District's COVID-19 dashboard and historical reports.
Our positives are increasing about under 1000/day, our recovery rate has decreased (85+% range), and our hospitalizations are rising. Protect our vulnerable and continue to practice good hygiene habits, including wearing a mask to prevent asymptomatic spread as mandated by Governor Sisolak (onus is on businesses, which we want to keep open, but Metro will not enforce it; OSHA is responsible for mask enforcement by fining the business). To report a non-compliant business through the state, call (702) 486-9020 or (775) 688-3700.
Doctors are doing convalescent plasma therapy treatments and are seeking plasma donors to help those in need. One plasma donation can help five patients. Blood donors can get the antibodies testing done for free.
FDA states 144 trials of therapeutics are underway to treat COVID-19. 457 more are in planning stages. Remdesivir has been FDA approved as a COVID-19 treatment (10/22). Despite recent studies showing that Remdesivir do not help in preventing COVID-19 deaths. Dexamethaaone is FDA approved for emergency base use. Eli Lilly's antibody treatment, bamlanivimab, receives emergency FDA approval (11/9).
Nevada has been approved for the 24-hour test procedure. FDA has approved a 30-minute and a 5-minute testing procedures. UNLV provides the main COVID-19 testing services. The first at-home testing kit was FDA approved on 5/15.
If you live within a 1-mile range of the Wal-Mart on Craig Rd, you qualify for a drone-delivered test kit to your front or back door.
Some testing sites require an appointment; some may need to be scheduled by your primary care physician or another authorized provider.
More test sites will open throughout December:
Drive-thru testing at Texas Station reopened on 11/13. 8am to 4pm, Thursday thru Monday. No appointment needed, results in 24 to 48hrs (setup your MyChart app account; 3 business day process).
City Serve coordinates testing sites throughout the valley. Testing is only on Saturdays. Schedule a no-cost test here: https://cityservelv.org/
The antibodies test was approved by the FDA a month ago. UMC, E7 Health and local laboratories are able to conduct antibodies testing. Cost is normally $149+, but your insurance may reimburse you for the test. Check your coverage first. Vitalant/Universal Blood Services will do a free antibody test for any eligible donors.
UMC is able to process 4,000 tests per day. It is encouraged for anyone to be tested. Symptoms are no longer required. Appointment is preferred, walk-up testing is available.
UMC's testing sites are inside Thomas & Mack Center and Cashman Field Center. They can do 1,200 tests per day, Tues-Sat 8am to 4pm. No symptoms, insurance, or citizenship required for testing. Schedule an appointment online through UMC's website (www.umcsn.com). A staff member will contact you back to schedule your appointment. According to their reps, there is no limit how often you can get tested. Sites are walk-in, appointment or walk-up. Both sites now use the self-nasal swab test kits.
UMC updates COVID-19 test guidelines:
New guidelines are to save test kits for those exhibiting symptoms.
See all testing locations on the SNHD website.
All CVS pharmacy drive-thru locations also does testing, no cost should be associated with this test. Validate with your insurance. If no insurance, there should be no charge. Requires an appointment scheduled.
Six months ago, the first vaccine was tested. More than 160 vaccine prototypes are being tested. Clinical trials of the vaccine were administered three months ago. Phase 1 & 2 of trial vaccines have completed with positive antibody results. Phase 3 clinical trials started with 30k volunteers; large test size of 3k vaccine test trials in the UK. Africa started their vaccine trials four months ago. Multiple sources stating to expect an FDA approved vaccine by beginning of next year.
Of the 100+ vaccines submitted, 22 have made the cut to go through testing and final FDA approval phases (5/15 briefing). The front runner vaccine is conducting human trails (Phase 3 aka final stage), completion date is pending. AstraZeneca is prepared to produce 2 billion doses once the vaccine is FDA approved. Pfizer claims their vaccine is more than 95% effective; goal end of the year. Moderna vaccine claims about 94.5% effective. Expected US authorization for Pfizer and Moderna along with distribution approval is expected within 24hrs of regulatory approval (note: they currently have 20M doses ready; vaccine is a two stage dose). Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine is 70% to 90% effective based on dosage program (single versus duo).
US government is working with four vaccine manufacturers who are in the final phases of vaccine trials, all prepared for massive vaccine output once FDA approval is given. Worldwide, six are in Phase III.
Phase 3 vaccine trials for Vegas has started. Volunteers can call 702-893-8968. Must be 18+. Administered by the Wake Clinical Research Center of Nevada. Source.
Remain mindful to give our medical community the ability to focus on those in need of their expertise to survive and combat the virus.

Beside each brand/store name you'll notice a location (in brackets). u/aromatic_writing suggested below that we include where each store is located and shipping from so that users can better judge where to shop from, and how long shipping might take. If a brand is marked (Int)ernational it may be because the company has distribution centres in a number of countries, or we know it's not Aus, but aren't sure exactly which country it is! If this info is important to you please double-check or contact the brand before purchasing as it may not be totally correct!

Yet the difference, of course, is that the company is making a massive profit from the men making fools of themselves, and while lots of ladies are earning money out of the schemes also, it is unclear that it is helpful to them in the longer term. Anastasia International, while not straight conspiring in the frauds, runs a very profitable business version that allows them to grow. While actual and long-term liaisons do sometimes form through the site, regularly it only serves to boost the concentric circles of skepticism, dissatisfaction and also heartbreak for all entailed. Anastasia urges that it weeds out scams whenever it discovers them, and also has actually banned some women from the website. It also states it will certainly reimburse customers that succumb to scams, and provides recommendations on how to prevent them.
Regardless of attempting to find out English as rapid as she could, when she first got here Wilson can not comprehend what her new other half stated to her. Her marital relationship is better now, she states, due to the fact that they can truly talk. italina Wilson had never ever planned to marry an international male whose language she did not speak. Nor did she intend to relocate 6,000 miles far from her family to a country she understood absolutely nothing regarding. She had a really good task in the audit division of a big importer in her indigenous Ukraine. She was also separated, after weding at 21 to a male whom she refers to as "not fit to domesticity". Her ex-husband had a tough time working as well as made points "tough" for her, she says softly before moving on to happier subjects.

After calling a mail-order company, most of Filipina mail-order brides met their spouses by going to "show-ups", a meeting in which a group of Filipina ladies are brought to meet a Korean man that is searching for a spouse. At the show-up the Oriental man selects a bride-to-be from among the group, and in an issue of days they are married. Asian men likewise worked through mail-order firms to discover partners as they functioned overseas in the 1800s. Trick variables establishing the partnership in between movement and also marital relationship were demographics, legal plans, cultural perceptions and modern technology.

Imbalances between the number of offered women and the number of men desiring partners produced a need for immigrant females. As a result of this inequality, a brand-new system of "picture brides" established in mainly male negotiations. In the early 20th century, the establishment of "picture brides" established because of migration constraints. The Japanese-American Key Arrangement of 1907 enabled Japan to approve passports to the spouses of immigrants to America. As migration of single Japanese ladies to America was successfully disallowed, making use of "picture brides" given a system for ready ladies to obtain a ticket to America, while Japanese employees in America can acquire a women helpmate of their own nationality.

Which country has the most Affairs?

This list prepared by the mirror.co.uk shows the countries that are most often cited as having illicit affairs. 1. Thailand 56% But it's Thailand which grabbed the top spot with 56% of the population admitting to being unfaithful. 2. Denmark 46% 3. Italy 45% 4. Germany 45% 5. France 43% 6. Norway 41% 7. Listed here are six indications you have actually obtained nice dating rules as well as are prone to make an excellent impression-- and valuables you would possibly require to consider doing in your ukraine brides next day, should you aren't already. We are the pursuers and it gets on us men to stimulate some feeling of destination in the woman we want. There have actually been a number of murders of mail-order brides in South Korea. In June 2013, The Philippine embassy in Seoul reported that it had obtained several issues from Filipinas that have married Korean males via mail-order, frequently coming to be "sufferers of grave misuses". The Philippine police rescued 29 mail-order brides on their means to marry South Korea men whom Principal Superintendent Reginald Villasanta, head of an organised criminal activity job pressure, says were "deceived into promises of an immediate well-off life through marriage with Oriental gentlemen". The ladies were advertised in online and offline "magazines" to South Oriental men.
For the women as well, although hundreds of them earn a living from the rip-offs, it is not a simple emotional burden to bear. Other females were really searching for a young and fascinating partner and wished to leave Ukraine, yet invested hours chatting with senior men in order to make money. I was able to uncover specifically how the rip-offs function because of an opportunity encounter with Alina, among the women entailed, who really felt born down by her collusion in what she called "emotional prostitution". A number of them feature absurd assumptions, obviously, but I am unsure that any person deserves this therapy. Equipped with this info, I was completely expecting to invest a week being offended by unpleasant males taking advantage of susceptible females, as well as there were absolutely a few on the journey whose misogyny got to prize-winning levels. I opted for a firm called Anastasia International, which is no dingy basement procedure, however a significant company with a projected income last year of $140m (₤ 84m). It has countless women in Ukraine and across the globe on its books, readily available for conversations as well as in-person conferences with lonely bachelors throughout the world looking for a spouse.

How much is a Ukraian bride?

An average middle-class, university-educated Thai lady deserves a dowry of 100,000- 300,000 baht. A dowry of a million baht for an uneducated lady of modest means is just ridiculous. Thai dowry prices fall drastically if your bride-to-be has been previously married, already has children, or is not a virgin anymore.
A worldwide marriage company is a service that ventures to present males and females of various nations for the objective of marriage, dating, or communication. Most of these marriage firms are based near ladies in creating nations.

Options For Systems In Ukraine Mail Order Other Halves.

Nevertheless, economic elements are not the only driving aspect for ladies in Asia to go into the mail-order sector. Filipina ladies often went into the mail-order industry in the hope of weding abroad and afterwards funding their family members for migration. Sometimes ladies were recruited based upon their physical appearance, with a focus placed on young people as well as virginity. This is discovered among store companies, the majority of which deal with well-off males from various other Oriental nations. The majority of Eastern mail-order brides originate from the Philippines, Thailand, Sri Lanka, India, Taiwan, as well as China. The Korea Times reports that annually, thousands of Oriental guys register for matches with Filipina brides with firms as well as by mail order. Based on data from the Oriental government, there are 6,191 Filipinas in South Korea who are wed to Koreans.
Because the collapse of the Soviet Union, large numbers of eastern European women have actually promoted themselves in such a way, mostly from Russia, Belarus, Ukraine, and Moldova. Men that list themselves in such publications are referred to as "mail-order husbands", although this is a lot less typical. As internet dating has actually gone mainstream over the previous years, Anastasia is attempting to rebrand what was when called the "mail-order bride" market as something modern and modern. This is no longer the protect of seedy and unscrupulous guys looking for vulnerable women from poor backgrounds to work as a longterm sex servant, the marketing suggests. This is "international dating", a way to locate romance without borders. As soon as you solve you are going to offer it a shot, the initial point it is a good idea to do is develop your profile.

Though lots of guys claim they desire a smart, amusing, or moral Russian female, those aren't the search terms they use. " hot Russians" as well as "Russian brides" are two of the top key words in the Russian dating sector, and also as we are an on the internet organization we naturally intend to capture that web traffic. And also, intelligentrussianbrides.com or beautifulrussianbrides.com simply doesn't have the very same ring to it.

Q: Would You Take Into Consideration An Objective For These Ladies To Come To Be A "Bride" To Be The Need To Leave Russia?

Although these marital relationships can be successful, in many cases immigrant wives are maltreated, misunderstood and separated from their Oriental spouses. One technique men use when selecting girls as spouses is "Like a court in an elegance contest, the guy interviews the females, a number of them 20 years younger than he, as well as chooses". The term "mail-order new bride" is both slammed by proprietors of international marriage firms and used by them as an easily well-known term. A mail-order bride-to-be is a female that provides herself in brochures and is chosen by a man for marriage. In the twentieth century, the pattern was mainly towards ladies residing in developing nations looking for guys in more industrialized countries. In the 21st century, the pattern is now based mainly on internet-based gathering place which do not per se certify as mail-order new bride services. The majority of the females listed in the twentieth-century as well as twenty-first-century services are from Southeast Asia, nations of the previous Eastern Bloc and also from Latin America.

International dating sites supply a wide variety of on-line interaction, including instantaneous messaging, email letters, webchat, phone translation, digital gifts, live games, as well as mobile-based chat. International marriage firms are often described as "mail-order bride" companies. Nevertheless, lots of take into consideration the term "mail-order bride-to-be" negative and feel it demeans foreign females by comparing them to commodities to buy and by falsely indicating that, they exercise no judgment over the men they satisfy as well as would certainly wed anyone from a relatively rich country. Many international brides originate from establishing nations in Asia. The countries the ladies come from are confronted with joblessness, malnutrition as well as inflation.

Oftentimes nonetheless, sufferers were fed incorrect info regarding the history of their future partner and family members, and endured abuse southern Oriental guys, which brought about "desertion of the marriage house, splitting up and also divorce", Villasanta stated. The New York Times records, "On a monthly basis, thousands of South Korean males fly to Vietnam, the Philippines, Nepal and Uzbekistan on special journeys. 2020.11.23 17:30 regularcuppawithmilk Old enough to be a Desi Auntie, my stalker.

This isn’t your typical cyber stalker story, it’s far from being typical. When I tell this story in person, I often say to my small audience, I feel like the crazy one, but I know that’s not true.
Imagine coming across a psycho you’ve never met in real life, but for some reason unbeknownst to you, she comes into your life. You may exchanged a few messages, she puts on this sweet and charming act. In front of the world, she puts on this facade of being a “cyberbully” specialist, when in reality, she’s the one being the keyboard warrior.
This goes beyond name calling, my abuser with google the shit out of your name. Find every single detail about you, screen record your lives, pay XX amount of money to get personal details off websites. To her this all a game, the hunter vs. hunted.
Once she gets your details, you’ll get the typical flow of harassing text from her burner numbers, she will change them every couple days. You can keep blocking and reporting her fake accounts across social media, but like the head of snakes, you cut one off, three of them keep growing in it’s place.
The truth is, she’s been doing this sort of harassment since the AOL chatroom days. I almost long for those days, cause it was much easier to hide from her. She used to go into the India chatrooms. taunt others, flood chatrooms with nonsense.
She now takes your personal details to the next level, by masking her mobile number and somehow getting in touch with the local authorities. From there she will create a false report, saying some batshit crazy crap.

The cops have no choice but to swat your house and break down your door. A home is supposed to your place where you feel safe. Despite blocking her, not provoking her, dodging her online, she just keeps coming back.
Believe it or not, she’s been doing this for over 23 years, when things start getting too hot, her family decides to move. Many have filed police reports, she will file a counterclaim, those who have tried to take her to court - she tends to never show up. You see, it’s all just a game to her. And since it’s municipal court, nothing ever comes out of it. She gets the sick pleasure of wasting your time, your money and your sanity.
If looks can kill, not to be mean, but she’s the stereotype of what a troll would look like. I think after being falsely accused of so many things by her, I’m allowed to say that much.
It doesn’t stop with the swatting, over the years she has also got lots of people fired from their positions.
Her town is like the armpit of the US, the cops are not very sophisticated. They deal with parking tickets and DUIs, not cyberstalking. She comes from money, I don’t want any of it. ALL I WANT IS PEACE AND FOR HER TO JUST LEAVE ME ALONE. But at times, it feels like some authority figures are being paid off. I keep asking myself, is going to take someone to be accidentally killed during a swat for someone to take this seriously?
The story has actually got international news coverage in both the US and UK where some of us reside.
I feel if you got this far, I thank you, this is such a release. Because I’m feeling like I’m not the crazy one, but fighting a corrupt system, where stricter laws need to be put in place. I don’t know how and I don’t know where to begin.
I just long for the day, where I don’t have to constantly have to keep blocking this weirdo. I believe she’s a danger to others (including myself) and herself as well.
The police here in the UK, eventually hit a roadblock with all her false report calls. While her court case date is still pending, she is free and not in the US custody. The burner numbers are untraceable, once they do find the company, I been told they can't track it. The only identity she has is her voice is very distinctive. It may seem minor or trivial, especially if you're not in my shoes, but imagine. Someone in a different country, can manipulate the police up to a point, it's beyond me. Although there's been no extradition from the US to the UK, in the last 25 years I think, the last was a murder. I doubt she will have to face charges here. But I can't imagine the resources lost due to her disruptive behaviour.
Not to assume anything, but something must’ve happened to her in her childhood to be consume with so much hate, but I can only hope her time is running out and justice will seize the day.

2020.11.22 19:34 Jac0b777 An In-Depth Examination of the Importance of Free Speech, Its Parallels With Meditation and the Futility of Censorship

"Give me the liberty to know, to utter, and to argue freely according to conscience, above all liberties."
– John Milton, Areopagitica
Free speech, or the ability to freely speak your mind (especially in a public venue), has had a tumultuous ride throughout humanity’s history. Though there have been strong movements for the freedom of expression dating back to ancient Greece and Rome, in reality it was still very easy to get executed when speaking truth to power, or when going against the cultural or religious grain at the time (Socrates’ death sentence for “subversion of the youth” and impiety [in his case disbelief in the Gods of the state] being one well known example).
From being burned at the stake, excommunicated, imprisoned, fined or even sent to a labor camp, many of the people that comprised our societies throughout history have not been too keen on hearing what other people thought or believed. Though freedom of speech was often idealized in principle, that principle could be (and often was) very quickly swept aside when it contradicted what was commonly seen as correct, true or morally right in terms of the values, beliefs, scientific paradigms and religious perceptions of the time.
With the advent of the printing press, the ability to speak your mind freely skyrocketed, but so too did censorship, imposed primarily by the Church due to fears of heresy. In fact, the origins of most copyright law originate in the Catholic Church and a variety of governments’ attempt to control the flow of information through printing.
The ability to share and disseminate “illegal” information was now easier than before, but the penalties were still great and anonymity in sharing difficult. However, throughout the 20th century the extent and importance of free speech increased greatly – and ultimately came to a head with the advent and incredible spread of the Internet.
Now the information era had come – and with it the seeming impossibility to stop a torrent of information, views and perspectives being shared everywhere. Ideas that would have surely had you killed hundreds of years ago were now commonplace and easily accessible to all. Or so it seemed.
The Internet truly looked like one of those few rare inventions that could positively influence the world – giving free access to information for all, as well as uniting people from distant lands in the knowledge that they are not really as different as they may have previously thought. But as in many such cases, the human desire to control started rearing its ugly head.
Though the amount of misinformation can be rampant online, as well as the hate and fear that can circulate and find common-ground with others, creating echo-chambers of destructive thought, one wonders whether the true danger lies in allowing such information to spread unmitigated or whether the far greater threat comes from a reckless (and usually unsuccessful) desire to stomp it out of existence.

Censorship or Communication – Who or What Shall Be the Arbiter of Truth?

“All censorships exist to prevent anyone from challenging current conceptions and existing institutions. All progress is initiated by challenging current conceptions, and executed by supplanting existing institutions. Consequently, the first condition of progress is the removal of censorship.”
― George Bernard Shaw, Mrs. Warren's Profession
There has been much debate about the harmful nature of spreading misinformation, as well as promoting fear and hate based ideologies, due to their potential corrupting influences on human minds and in turn, whole societies. This goes as far back to the ideas of Socrates, where in his ideal Republic certain ideas, imagery, poems and literature would be banned from the public arena, censored out of existence (described primarily in books 2 & 3), in order to promote a society that would strive towards what is “right”.
Of course the first great problem here is the question of what indeed is right, correct and positive for the flourishing of a healthy society. Who decides on what should be censored and indeed based on what do they decide?
What is seen as morally correct has changed greatly throughout history and still differs from culture to culture – where, for example, homosexuality has been and still is believed to be a great sin in many areas of the planet (and has throughout many eras of human history), nowadays it is viewed in a far more accepting manner, especially in Western society. A great divergence from certain ancient cultures to modern times can be seen in something such as pederasty, which was seen as normal, and even encouraged, in certain eras of ancient Greece and Rome. Now similar practices are viewed as mostly sick and illegal due to minors being seen as unable to meaningfully consent to sexual activity with adults.
Mainstream scientific views have also been wrong many times throughout our times and have only gradually updated themselves through new discoveries that slowly seeped into the academic and public arena. Thus nowadays, despite the discoveries in quantum mechanics that describe the world as a relation between the observer and the observed, as well as imply a non-deterministic reality, the old Newtonian world-view of pure objectivity and determinism is still very much rooted in most of society’s thinking. There are many more such examples that can be given throughout history. Let me simply mention that until 1803, when their reality was finally conceded, meteorites were seen as a myth and superstition. “Stones cannot fall from the sky” – so all reports of such phenomena were viewed as delusions. In 1772 the prestigious French Academy of Science appointed a committee to investigate such claims of “falling rocks” and concluded that they could not be real. Its conclusions were so convincing that museums all over Western Europe threw away their meteorite specimens.
If morality, beliefs and science are insufficient in creating a template for what should be discussed and what should be censored away, then what should that template even be? Perhaps, just perhaps the censorship of any ideas may not be the best solution after all? Perhaps all ideas should remain on the table, free to be debated at will, while more and better information should be given instead of that which is blatantly false and divisive to be forcibly removed from the public's awareness.

Can One Stomp Out Dissent?

“To forbid us anything is to make us have a mind for it.”
― Michel de Montaigne, Montaigne: Essays
Conversely, does censorship even work in actually uprooting the ideas and beliefs of individuals and groups – or does it merely drive these ideas underground, into greater echo-chambers where further radicalization can occur?
An idea or belief can only survive as long as it is seen as logically correct, or if the emotions behind it are so strong as to keep it afloat (usually it is a bit of both, though feelings do seem to come over facts in modern discourse – sadly we are all to blame in this to some degree, even though many may claim otherwise, not realizing their own blind-spots).
Thus the only way to neutralize it is to dissolve the emotion behind it and/or refute its logical counter-part. Censorship, of course, does neither of the above. In fact, if an idea is censored and not refuted (especially when many have already taken it into their consciousness) and the emotional wounds behind it are not healed (if it is based on fear or anger), it is extremely likely to continue spreading in some way. Not only that, the desire for its believers to spread it will become far greater, and in their minds more justified, due to its censorship.
The mere move towards censoring an idea is something that can often make it more popular, in what can be described as the phenomenon of psychological reactance. For example ― in 2003, Barbra Streisand sued photographer Kenneth Adelman for taking a photograph of her Malibu mansion, citing violation of privacy as a reason. The photograph of her estate, which had been downloaded a mere few times from Adelman’s website before that, became so popular as the result of the well-publicized lawsuit that it was downloaded near half-a-million times in the following month. The social phenomenon of information spreading even more widely after its attempted censorship has thus been dubbed The Streisand Effect.
But of course, this phenomenon is nothing new and can be seen throughout history.
Did the vast persecution of Christians since Roman times and a desire to stop their religious expression stop Christianity as a whole? Did the censorship of literature related to male homosexuality and birth control in the 19th century (especially in Britain) cause “gayness” to die off, or the movement for its inclusion in society to cease? Did the censoring of such works as Ulysses, by James Joyce, Lady Chatterley’s Lover, by DH Lawrence, and Howl, by Allen Ginsberg, remove these books out of existence or did they perchance become bestsellers?
Censorship, in terms of its desire to control is similar to war – it comes with a desire to stomp out the opposition in the hopes that it can and will allow itself to be eliminated by force. But if the war on terror and the one on drugs have given such poor results, how on Earth can a war on specific forms of information ever hope to be a success (putting aside the question whether success in such a “war” should even be hoped for)? Information is much like water, or air, but even subtler than that. It is carried through our consciousness, our minds, and without controlling the inner world and will of all, the flow of ideas can never be truly ceased.
Perhaps the greatest thing that can be done, especially in the case of fear and hate based ideologies, is the promotion of emotional healing and alternative arguments that may give people a different perspective and allow them to step into “a new story”, as one of my favourite social philosophers, Charles Eisenstein, would say.

The Parallels Between Meditation and Free Speech

“As above, so below, as within, so without, as the universe, so the soul…”
― Hermes Trismegistus
As someone that has practiced meditation for many years now, I cannot help but see some very significant parallels between the suppression of thoughts, ideas (including corresponding emotions) on the level of the individual – and the suppression of those very same aspects on the societal and global scale.
In my experience, whenever something is suppressed in the human mind, pushed into the subconscious, it desires to rise up again into consciousness, where it will be acknowledged and integrated back into the psyche. Through meditative practice, emotions and thoughts are allowed to arise, be felt, observed and thus integrated. It is awareness that is the great healer, the great catalyst for change – and by relegating pain back to the unconscious, by suppressing it, as well as our desires and needs, our joys and fears, trials and tribulations, we will ensure that mental health, inner peace and happiness will always be out of reach.
Throughout my life I have noticed that what applies to the individual very often also applies to the collective. For what else is the collective than a group of individuals, a collective consciousness, a hive-mind that in many ways can be said to be an organism in and of itself?
If collectively, the thoughts, emotions and perspectives of individuals are suppressed and denied, if their ideas are censored out of existence, if they are not allowed to speak freely, the consequences to the health of the society that these individuals comprise will become nothing short of disastrous.
If they are on the other hand allowed to come into the light of awareness of the collective organism of humanity, healing and integration can begin, most often through healthy discourse and debate. Even the most wretched and hateful belief-systems, even the ideas that seem to fly in the face of all logic and reason (though many times, when facing some of these ideas, we see that perhaps our own logic and reason needs an update as well) can and must be brought to the attention of mass consciousness, in order for integration and healing (in the case of great fear and hate) to occur.
It is futile to believe that ideologies based on a lack of sensibility and empathy will simply disappear if we ignore them. This is mirrored in the belief that many people still have, where their own inner shadow or the aspects of themselves they have deemed unfitting or unworthy will simply vanish into thin air if they are never acknowledged. This will simply not occur, for it is impossible for healing to happen without awareness, it is impossible for change to happen without the light of consciousness, it is impossible for understanding to come without acknowledgment.
Through repression and suppression of people’s thoughts, opinions and emotions those very aspects begin to come up in other areas of individual and collective life – for what is suppressed will eventually come up into consciousness, whether through a verbalized opinion (perhaps the least problematic of all), an action, or ultimately on the most extreme collective scale – through war.
Thus the only way forward is to turn on the light and let the darkness be dissolved in its presence. As within, so without, as above so below – and if I might add, as in the individual, so in the collective.

The Discourse Deciders of the Information Age

“Whoever would overthrow the liberty of a nation must begin by subduing the freeness of speech.”
― Benjamin Franklin
It is now that the entirety of online discourse has been guided towards and centralized in a few mega-platforms, owned by enormous corporations and spear-headed by out of touch and often morally destitute billionaires. Google, YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Reddit (some of these owned by the same company) are now the norm for searching, communicating, sharing, discussing and seeking out entertainment on the Web. On a myriad of devices, these websites are the default choice for many activities, often so integrated that they cannot even be removed (for example - on many new smartphones, various Google apps, as well as Facebook cannot be uninstalled), thus guiding especially new, and technically less savvy, users to being more inclined to use them.
Because everyone now uses these platforms, it is more likely that companies, political parties, or even individuals trying to speak their mind, will use them as well. Whether because of a desire to spread influence, sell a product or merely speak their mind, being on these platforms means more people will hear your voice and thus your reach will be far greater than elsewhere. Not to mention that most of these sites, through the immense profits they have accrued (mainly of course through the participation of the masses), have the ability to manage vast amounts of data and users, through expensive physical infrastructure and top software engineers, thus making their monopoly in the online world even fiercer. The idea that one can simply “create their own YouTube” is obviously an illusion, since the upkeep costs would be far beyond most people’s (or even companies’) reach.
These vast corporations and their respective platform hold an immense monopoly on Internet discourse – and through the power they hold, they have a massive say in what ideas, beliefs and perspectives, as well as which individuals discussing them are allowed in online discourse. And since online discourse now comprises the main aspect of mass human discussion and debate in general, these platforms have the power to shape and mold the minds of people, rivaled in their power perhaps only by television at the height of its influence.

Solutions to Combat Silencing

“Proclaim the truth and do not be silent through fear.”
― St. Catherine of Siena
So what should be done? I suggest the greatest antidote to censorship is speaking one’s mind fully and without fear. Only by being afraid of speaking up, only through fear of being “canceled” or viciously verbally assaulted (real possibilities, but still far lesser repercussions than those people faced in the past), can ideas and perspectives be silenced and allowed to fester in the individual and global subconscious.
If possible, try to be a good example when you do speak your mind. Educate yourself on the topics you are discussing, listen to other people and consider their opinions and perspectives, allow yourself to be aware of your emotional triggers, wounds and how they influence your thinking and reasoning.
If at all possible, consider engaging in a meditation practice – that alone will give you far greater clarity of mind, the ability to transcend emotional wounds that prevent insightful and unimpeded reasoning (including listening to others with an open-mind), as well as that crucial element that we should all be striving for in order to make our society better – compassion. In a way, clear and open communication naturally gives rise to compassion (and ultimately is a form of compassion), as you allow yourself to truly hear and know the other person’s perspective, thereby updating and clarifying your own.
It is clear, open communication and debate that we should all be striving for in order to make this society better, in order to dispel misinformation and hate, as well as to foster empathy for one another and our distinct perspectives that make life the cornucopia of diversity and uniqueness that it is.

2020.11.22 19:16 Jac0b777 An In-Depth Examination of the Importance of Free Speech, Its Parallels With Meditation and the Futility of Censorship

What is a Brochure Website?
https://preview.redd.it/aysv6v72iq061.jpg?width=1920&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7a525a46cb05d2557fc4891b1c87a384a9f6a331
When it comes to promoting your business or services, the internet is a powerful instrument, and it's incredibly easy to use it to its full potential. It's a perfect way to expand the scope of your business as well as to make clients aware of the products and services you provide. A well-designed brochure website is one way of using the internet to make clients more aware of your goods. But what exactly is a website for a brochure, and how do you get one for your company? From a simple description to the advantages of a brochure site, we will clarify everything you need to know about brochure websites below.
Brochure website is a digital version of a printed brochure. They show the goods or services that your business offers, but they do not offer the product or service online, unlike an e-commerce website. The products and services are only presented with a brochure page, so consumers may have to contact the company to place an order. Brochure websites aim to be visually appealing and the best brochure pages make the most of the optimization of search engines to really get the search results noticed. On desktops, smartphones and tablets, these websites can be accessed through any browser, so you can be sure that your business reaches the full number of people.
A well-made brochure website is great for promoting your business. They will pull people in and really sell your goods using powerful words and captivating pictures. You can upgrade your brochure website later, if you think your business or company will profit more from an e-commerce website where you will be able to view both products and services and allow customers to make purchases through the website.
Whom should choose a Brochure Website?
Small companies with a limited budget, who hardly ever need to make improvements to their website, are the target group for brochure websites, so they are easier to create and cheaper to maintain. Brochure websites often have a very long shelf-life (if designed right from the start) and unlike an e-commerce website that needs to be kept up-to-date with inventory and new product features, they do not have to be updated very much.
So if your organisation meets these specifications, you might be curious about the advantages of brochure websites. As simple as it sounds, most businesses would use a brochure website designing services to demonstrate that they exist. Your company will be able to meet a larger range of individuals and educate them about the services you provide by providing an online presence. It will also reassure potential clients that you're serious about what you do if your brochure website is professional.
Websites for brochures are also great if you don't want to spend too much time maintaining a website and handling it. You can leave it up on the internet and just update it as and when the services or rates change by simply creating a brochure website. You will get on with work that really matters to you in this way.
Benefits of a Brochure Website:
  • Make real-time updates - Can real-time updates be supported by your paper flyer or pamphlet? no, right? But website brochures will do that. Nowadays, the more and more accurate information you have the better the information is of utmost importance. One good thing about website brochures is that whenever and wherever you want to make people aware of on-field news, you can update it, sure, but for this you need to have a secure internet connection.
  • Get Readymade Templates - If you're not a website designer, things are made simpler for you when you get ready-made models and designs available online, and there are also free places to download these templates, etc. Nowadays, creating a creative and presentable multimedia brochure is, frankly, a cakewalk.
  • Affordable Promotion - Don't worry, if you have budget limitations, you can use budget-friendly apps to design your own website brochure that everyone can appreciate. You can create immersive and engaging e-brochures with a free app to catch your audience's attention. It also guarantees cost optimization because you do not need a designer for this, plus no additional printing, paper, etc. costs. Digital brochures will save a great deal of money for you.
So to summarize, it can be said that brochures websites & app development company can turn out to be the true deal makers for you if used appropriately. With digital brochures, you still have the freedom to try out new and interesting things and these won't burn a hole in your pocket for sure.

2020.11.20 01:08 AutoModerator General Questions Thread, November 20, 2020

A thread for new collectors to ask basic questions of the community.
Frequently Asked Questions below!
A longer version of the subreddit rules is here.
For questions specifically concerning bootlegs or vendor legitimacy, please ask in the Bootleg Megathread.
NSFW & Spoiler Guidelines
  • For Self Posts: include a bolded NSFW note next to links in that post.
  • For Links to sites/images: If the figure is NSFW, or the website has any NSFW content (including ads) be sure to tag your post NSFW and use the appropriate link flair.
Bootlegs
Any collection posts containing bootlegs, comments advocating buying bootlegs, or links to sites selling bootlegs, recasts, or unlicensed merchandise will be removed.
People often ask about the legitimacy and/or safety of a number of websites which sell large resin statues. The more commonly-asked of those deal primarily in resins from studios which do not have a license from the Japanese IP holders to produce merchandise. Therefore links to those sites are not permitted here. Another sign is if MyFigureCollection doesn't list the either the statue, its manufacturer, or the shop it's being sold on.
MyFigureCollection
My Figure Collection is like MyAnimeList... but for figures! Their database includes thousands of items which been produced during the last couple of decades, along with reviews of shops and other helpful articles. One can also list their own collection and post gallery photos.

Buying & Shipping

1. What’s the best place to buy my anime figures from?
That’s going to depend a lot on what works for you, but most people around here buy them from Amiami, Big in Japan, Hobby Search, HobbyLink Japan, or Tokyo Otaku Mode. If none of those work for you for whatever reason, there’s a list of reputable retailers in the sidebar that you can check out at any time. Be extra careful when ordering figures from websites like Amazon or ebay, as there are a lot of bootlegs on those sites. Don’t be afraid to ask in our Bootleg Megathread if you’re unsure.
2. What differences are there between the shipping options I get from most Japanese shops?
Below is a rundown of the main shipping choices you’ll get at most retailers. Keep in mind that if an order is large enough you will be forced to use one of the more expensive options, as SAL shipments have lower size and weight restrictions.
  • Unregistered SAL: Sometimes referred to as uSAL, is usually the cheapest method. It does not come with any tracking or insurance. Usually takes up 2-4 weeks for delivery.
  • Registered SAL: Sometimes referred to as rSAL, is insured for the declared value up to 6,000 yen. It comes with a tracking number and usually takes 2-4 weeks for delivery.
  • EMS: This method of shipping is much faster than either SAL options, usually arriving within a week of shipment. EMS shipments are insured for the declared value up to 2,000,000 yen.
  • Airmail
  • E-packet
  • Surface: Shops don't offer this very often. It's an actual cargo ship and slow as a result.
  • DHL: Becoming more available as an alternative to EMS on AmiAmi and other sites. Can be less expensive than EMS and of comparable speed, but may be more reliant on the specific geographical area being shipped to. Offers their own tracking.
3. I placed two+ orders for figures at different times. Will my items be shipped together, or will I have to pay shipping twice?
Most shops will ask you to pay shipping on a per-order basis, but here are some that will allow combined shipping:
  • Amiami: You can combine orders here, as long as the orders ship in the same month. It doesn’t matter if the item is new or preowned. Any preorders that are set for that month can also be combined with other orders for that month. However, be aware that if the preorder gets delayed, Amiami will remove that item from that month’s shipment and place it on a new order. To combine orders on Amiami, use the “Combine Orders” feature under “My Account”.
  • Hobby Search: Hobby Search will let you combine orders that release in the same month, but you cannot combine in stock items with preorders. If you want to combine multiple preorders, or multiple in stock items, you can do so using the “Order Recombination” feature on your account page.
  • HobbyLink Japan: At HLJ, you have the option to send paid orders to their “Private Warehouse”, where you can store them for up to 2 months. When you’re ready to ship the items, you simply select which items to ship and HLJ will combine them into one shipment for you. To use this, just select the “Private Warehouse” option as shipping when you order.
  • GSC Web Shop: Here you’ll pay a flat 2,000 yen fee per order. It doesn’t matter how many items you put in your order, or how many different months the items release in. They will charge you 2,000 yen and ship all items as they release. The exception to this rule is their Wonder Festival exclusive items. Those can only be placed in the same order as other Wonder Festival items.
If you’re unsure about whether or not a shop we haven’t listed will combine your orders, please refer to their individual FAQ’s.
4. When will I get charged for my preorder?
Most Japanese shops charge you once the item is in stock and ready for shipment. When that happens, they will send you an email asking for payment. Some shops (mostly overseas ones), will allow you to pay for the item up front though, if you’d like. A few with that option are:
  • Big in Japan (Japanese store)
  • Tokyo Otaku Mode
  • Anime Island
  • Crunchyroll
Keep in mind that overseas stores will likely get the figure a few months after Japanese ones, so pay attention to the release date stated on the website you are buying from so as to avoid that confusion.
5. Should I expect to pay customs fees when importing figures?
That depends on where you live. Here’s a quick rundown:
  • Australia: 10% GST is now assessed up front.
  • Canada: Minimum declared value for charges is around CAD$20 for regular shipments, and CAD$60 for gifts (gifting something only seems to lower the declared value by about CAD$40, not deplete it completely). When using Amiami, try their Small Air Packet option. It comes with tracking, gets there in about the same time as EMS, and is better at avoiding customs.
  • Europe: Using EMS raises your chance of getting charged for customs. SAL can still avoid customs in some countries, but generally gets checked in the UK now if the items are above the threshold. Amiami offers a shipping service called “Small Air Packet” that is really good for avoiding customs when you are only shipping one or two figures. Small Air Packet usually takes about the same amount of time as EMS, and still comes with tracking. The minimum declared value for customs charges in the Europe is pretty low- around £15 (£36 for gifts) / €20.
  • Mexico: Minimum declared value for customs fees is USD$300 for shipments by post, and USD$50 for shipments by courier.
  • United States: A shipment has to have a declared value of USD$2,000 before customs starts hitting you with fees, so you most likely won’t have to worry about them at all.
6. The figure I want is an exclusive, how do I go about ordering one outside of Japan?
You have three options for this:
A. Big in Japan is known to stock exclusive figures and ship to other countries. Usually the price is higher because they build in their proxy fees, but it’s easier than worrying about using a forwarder or proxy service. If you live in the US, Crunchyroll, Right Stuf, and Tokyo Otaku Mode also get exclusives sometimes, but out of the states the shipping can get expensive.
B. Forwarding Services: A forwarder is someone who you ship an exclusive item to so that they can forward the package on to you, usually for a flat fee + shipping. When using a forwarder you still make the purchase yourself, and enter their address into the shipping field. When the box arrives at the forwarder they will then stick your address onto the package and send it on its way.
Some popular forwarders are:
Be sure to read each sites instructions on forwarding carefully!
C. Proxy Services: With a proxy, you tell them what the item you’re looking for is and they will purchase it in your stead. This is handy for when a company doesn’t accept foreign credit cards, or you’re having trouble navigating a Japanese website.
Some popular proxies are:
Again, be sure you thoroughly read through each sites proxy instructions.
7. I see a bunch of really cheap figures that ship from China on ebay. Are those okay to buy?
Generally, no. They’re most likely bootlegs. If you want a second opinion on that, feel free to ask in the Bootleg Megathread that’s always stickied at the top of the sub.
8. What’s a bootleg, and how can I avoid buying them?
A bootleg is a counterfeit figure often made using rejected molds of the official product. They are usually priced significantly lower than the genuine article, and in order to make their profit, bootleggers use lower quality materials and have less attention to detail- resulting in a substandard figure.
The Bootleg Megathread that I mentioned in question 7 is a great tool to avoid buying any bootlegs. It has a few tips and tricks to avoiding them to begin with, and a few more on how to spot them if you’re worried you might already own one.
9. Does anyone know when figure X is going to be released? How do I know if it was delayed?
My Figure Collection (sometimes referred to as MFC) does an excellent job of staying on top of information like release dates and delays. If you’re curious about an upcoming figures release date, check there first. This information can be found directly under the “Releases” section on a figure’s entry. If you only see a month and a year in that section, it means the release date has not yet been announced by the manufacturer, and there is still a chance the figure could be delayed.
If you make an account on MFC you can also subscribe to comments, changes, and pictures via a checkbox on the right hand side of a figure’s listing. Subscribing to any of these things will allow MFC to send you an email anytime the subscription in question updates. Subscribing to “changes” is a great way to keep up with release dates and delays, among other things.
10. The figure I want is long sold out at normal retailers! What’s the best place to pick it up in the aftermarket?
A list of reputable retailers can be found under the “Shops” section of the /AnimeFigures sidebar. They all sell legitimate products, and many of them also sell figures second hand. However, the most frequently suggested second hand sites are Mandarake and Amiami- who has a preowned section that they update every night save Sundays and Japanese holidays around 1PM JST and again around 6PM JST.
AmiAmi grades their pre-owned items on a letter scale. The general consensus from buyers is that their ratings are conservative, so unless the item and/or packaging is specifically indicated as having significant flaws, pre-owned items from them are usually in at least as good a condition as their rating suggests.
Note: When you search Mandarake, you’ll get the best results by using the Japanese characters for whatever you are searching. If you don’t know them, you can find them on MFC by clicking on any of the “details” in that figure’s listing.
11. Amiami has a figure I’m interested in labeled as “For sale in Japan only”. Does this mean I can’t order it without a proxy or forwarder?
No, you can still order it. Amiami’s English site has that warning on many items, and it’s mostly meant to inform you that this product was made for a Japanese market, and as such, will have Japanese speaking/writing in it- so don’t expect any instructions to be in English. If Amiami doesn’t want foreigners buying a certain product, they won’t even list it on their English site.

Displaying Your Figures

12. What display cases do you recommend?
If you live near an Ikea try out one of these:
*If you decided on a Detolf, you might find that there is a lot of wasted space. Here are a few tutorials on raising the shelves or and adding extra ones in.
If you don’t live near an Ikea, Amazon has a few display options, though they are more expensive. Also keep an eye on your local Craigslist (or your country’s equivalent) and stores near you that are closing up.
13. What lighting do you guys recommend?
Ikea’s Dioder LED strips are often suggested. They come in white or muti-colored.
Most hardware stores carry something similar though, if you don’t live by an Ikea. Just make sure that the lights don’t get too hot!
14. What are those clear plastic boxes that I see under everyone’s figures in their collection posts, and where can I get them?
Those are called risers. Most of us use standard acrylic risers like these. Some other, easy to find things that have been suggested are:
Check your local hobby store for the first 2 options, or your local hardware store if you want to make your own.
Another common suggestion is to visit The Container Store if you have one near you. They have a lot of things to choose from that can suit a variety of needs. Be sure to check out their standard acrylic risers, their Amac boxes, and the various display cases they sell (baseball cases, mini car cases. hockey puck cases, etc).
15. Should I keep my figures sealed?
That is, of course, up to you really, but here are a few things to keep in mind when debating this question:
  • Keeping it sealed can actually damage your figure. PVC figures usually have something called plasticizer in them, and that plasticizer needs to be able to breath. If a PVC figure isn’t exposed to oxygen, after a period of time the plasticizer starts to break down and form a sticky substance on the surface of the figure. Simply opening your figures and taking them out of the box prevents this from happening. If you happen to find plasticizer goo on one of your figures, Kahotan has a handy guide for dealing with it.
  • Unlike some other figure markets, keeping an anime figure sealed won’t raise its value by a whole lot. In fact, because of the plasticizer problem mentioned above, your figure could actually be in better condition if you open it versus keeping it sealed.

Finding the Right Figure(s) for You

16. There are so many figure companies! Who makes good figures?!
Obviously this is a very subjective question, but as a general starting point, here are a few well renowned figure companies:
  • Alter
  • Max Factory
  • Good Smile Company
  • Kotobukiya (usually hit or miss for people. Use your best judgement based off of the prototype)
  • Aquamarine
  • Flare
  • Stronger
17. I really love “series X / character X”- how can I check if any figures were ever made for it?
My Figure Collection can be your best friend here. Simply do a search on the name of the series or character using the search bar located at the top right of the screen, and all associated figures pop up!
Alternatively, if you’re looking at a figure’s MFC entry, most of the text under the “Details” section can be clicked on and used to run a search.
18. How can I commission a custom figure?
None of the major figure companies (Alter, Kotobukiya, Good Smile Company, etc.) will take a commission for a single figure. This thread has a few websites in it that you can check out, or you can look into garage kits. Some kit painters would be willing to resculpt, frankenstein together, or otherwise modify kits for the right price.
If you're looking for help completing a garage kit, /brushforhire may be useful.

Keeping Up with New Announcements

19. How can I keep up with figure news (announcements, updates, etc.)?
Most people use a MFC combined with any or all of the following news sites:
To use MFC for this I’ll quote question #9.
Most companies have one or more Twitter accounts. Some examples: Good Smile Company sales, Good Smile's USA branch, Max Factory, AmiAmi Hobby News.
20. Everyone’s excited about something called Wonfes….. what the heck is that?!
WonFes (short for Wonder Festival) is a biannual figure expo where many figure producers (both large and small) show off new sculpts and updates to figures already under way. Most companies save their most exciting announcements for WonFes, so we all look forward to the expo whenever it rolls around! Winter Wonder Festival is usually held in February, while Summer Wonder Festival is usually in July. The event has also spread to Shanghai, in the late spring.
21. One or two (or 15) figures were announced at WonFes that I’m really excited about! How can I keep track of their progress once the event is over?
MFC is always really quick about getting new WonFes announcements (or any others throughout the year, for that matter) listed in their database, so we suggest using that. To find a figure from the event you can search any number of things, including the name of the character or the name of the show. You can also use the tag search to search “WonderFestival 20xx_[season]” to see all items announced at that event.
